Tamaqua area man jailed for threats

A Tamaqua area man was committed to the Schuylkill County prison in Pottsville last Thursday, Sept. 12, following an incident in Rush Township.

Erik V. Byrd, 34, was arrested and arraigned before on-call District Judge Anthony Kilker, Shenandoah, after he allegedly threatened to kill two people and chased two others while wielding a machete.

Township police charged him with two counts each of making terroristic threats and reckless endangerment. The incident took place at 10:45 a.m. at 17 Pine Ave. in Hometown.

Kilker set bail at $35,000. Byrd was unable to post the required 10 percent and was incarcerated.
