Published September 16. 2013 05:00PM

Two persons were killed early Saturday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said the accident was discovered about 3:10 a.m. along SR61 in New Castle Township.

Troopers said Brian Hibshman, 32, of Mohnton, Berks County, was operating a 1999 Chevrolet Astro van northbound while Earvin Wallace, 48, of Shenandoah, was southbound driving a 1994 GMC Jimmy.

Troopers said Hibshman crossed the median and his van collided head-on with the GMC Jimmy.

It took rescue personnel a period of time to free the two victims from the twisted wreckage. Two medical helicopters landed in a parking lot at the nearby Schuylkill Mall.

Both men were transported to the mall landing site. Wallace was pronounced dead at the landing site at 5:05 a.m. Hibshman was then transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, where he was pronounced dead at 5:58 a.m.

Reportedly, the crash was discovered by a local police officer who was en route home after completing his shift.

The road was closed in both directions for several hours.
