Palmerton Food Pantry
The Palmerton Food Pantry will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 20. The food pantry is located at St. John's Lutheran Church, Fireline Road, Palmerton. For more information, call (610) 826-4335.
Holy Trinity Church
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton, will be returning to regular worship hours.
Services will be held at 8 and 10:45 a.m. Sunday School is at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15. Holy Communion will be observed.
Also beginning Sept. 15, the nursery will be back during the 10:45 a.m. worship service. A staffed nursery will be available for parents who wish to drop off their children during the service.
Preschool Story Hour has resumed at the Palmerton Area Library, and is held every Friday at 10:30 a.m. during the school year. This is free and open to the public.
Homework Helpers is every Wednesday: Grades 7-12 at 2:45 p.m., and grades 1-6 at 3:15 p.m.
Volunteer tutors will help your child with his/her homework and other assignments. This is free, but parents must register each child.

The library board of directors will meet Wednesday, Sept. 18, at the library. Meeting are open to the public.
Lions to meet
Palmerton Lions will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16 at Fireline Hotel. Members are asked to bring a nonperishable food item for the local food pantry.
Community members are reminded to donate used eyeglasses at Houser Newman Eye Associates, Walters Optometric, First Northern Bank & Trust, Citizens Bank, all located on Delaware Avenue in Palmerton and/or the Palmerton Area High School located on Fire Line Road or by giving them to any Lions member. Eyeglasses are recycled for those in other countries who are unable to afford corrective lenses. In addition, anyone needing financial assistance with eyeglasses can contact committee chairman, Jim Sheckler at (610) 826-4533. There are financial guidelines that must be followed by all applicants and a written application must be completed and approved.

Coal and folk music
The Palmerton Area Library will host a free Jay Smar concert, "PA Coal 'n Folk Music," on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m.
Smar's new CD, "Heritage & Coal Mining Songs of Northeast Pennsylvania," is now available.
