Colts gain big win on links over Mahanoy

In a crucial Schuylkill League match, Marian pulled off a huge win over previously unbeaten Mahanoy Area, 374-386.
The Colts were led by Mark Postupack's medalist round of 89, and Austin Paisley's 90, the Colts improve to 6-1.
Collin Casserley's 94 was the best round for the Golden Bears, who drop to 7-1 on the season.

Jim Thorpe picked up a 2-0 forfeit victory over Lourdes Regional since the Red Raiders was unable to provide the mandatory four golfers.
Bryce Fiamoncini from Lourdes led all golfers however, with a 80. Jim Thorpe was led by Brett Luciana and James Marks with 88, Luke Eggert 90 and Alex Heydt 93.
The match was held at Indian Hills Country Club Course.
Salisbury remained undefeated with a 2-0 win over Northern Lehigh in Colonial League action, improving to 3-0 overall.
The Falcons held a 15-4 advantage in shots in the game, with Austin Uhl and Ryan Kennington scoring a goal apiece for the win. Brett Spencer and Connor Wagner each had an assist for a goal for Salisbury, as well.
The Bulldogs' Nathaniel Rex had 13 saves in goal in the losing effort, while counterpart Shaun Holben had four saves for the shutout.
Saucon Valley used a quick start en route to a 5-1 Colonial League win over Northwestern.
The Panthers' Zach Reichard and Joe Schuyler each scored two goals in the win.
Northwestern's Daniel Hallingstad recorded the Tigers' only tally with Kyle Willis contributing the assist.
Southern Lehigh jumped on Palmerton early and never looked back, cruising to a 9-2 win in Colonial League play.
The Spartans (1-2) had eight goals by halftime, led by Will Demmel and Ryan Fowler, who scored two apiece.
Jonathan Schwartz and Austin Shupp put the ball in the back of the net for the Bombers.
With the loss, Palmerton falls to 1-2 on the season.

The Lehighton girls cross country team pulled off a sweep over Pocono Mountain East and West, while the Indian boys runners managed a sweep, defeating the Cardinals and dropping a one-pointer to West, 29-28.
Michael Blacketter won the individual boys' race for the Tribe, while Jennifer Beers came in second in the girls' contest.

The Lady Green Knights pulled out a 4-1 Colonial League decision over Northwestern, riding the strength of a second half blowout.
Pen Argyl scored three goals in the second session to extend its lead for the win. Lacey Hempeler's first half score put the winners on the board at intermission, before Sara Cinelli, Dana Evans and another Hempeler tally were added on in the second. Evans, Cinelli, Nicole Kocher and Courtney Paige all had assists for the winners.
Northwestern's Kassie Kilonowski scored off an assist from Courtney Paige to keep the Tigers off the scoreboard.
Pen Argyl held a 18-12 edge in shots on goal, with the Lady Tigers' goal keeper Laura Kotula stopping 12 shots on goal.
Northwestern held on against Saucon Valley with a 3-2 victory.Sabrina Mertz had two goals, Sarah Segan had one as well for Northwestern.
Angela Motolese and Trista Cunningham each had an assist for the Tigers.
Saucon Valley had scores by Alicia Binn and Paige Jones.
The Lady Spartans built an insurmountable 6-0 lead at halftime and held out for a 9-0 win over the Lady Bombers in CL soccer action.
Abbey Cerciello had a hat trick for the winners in the victory, while teammate Tay Blondell added two goals. Sydnie Ziegler, Zoe Geis, Makenzie Koziel and Olivia Biery each tallied a sole score, as well.
Southern Lehigh held a commanding 22-8 edge in shots on goal throughout the game.
Gabriella Bentz and Kyra Bulino both scored two goals to lead Pottsville to a 6-0 Schuylkill League win over Tamaqua.
The Lady Raiders, who dropped to 1-1, were outshot by a 29-4 margin. Tamaqua's Carly Sassaman finished with 21 saves.
Bree Hoffman scored two goals for Weatherly both it wasn't nearly enough as the Wreckers dropped a 7-2 Schuylkill League decision to Lourdes.
The Red Raiders received three goals from Kelsey Williams while Rachel Schultz and Bailey Trell each added a pair of tallies.
Pine Grove-Jim Thorpe
Jim Thorpe fell to Pine Grove, 2-1.
Pine Grove had 18 shots on goal, Jim Thorpe had six.
Rebecca Cressman scored off of a Cat Condly assist for Jim Thorpe.
Goals for Pine Grove were scored by Mackenzie Lesh and Carlee Conrad.
Lehighton pulled off a sweep over Saucon Valley in a non-league volleyball win, 25-17, 25-10, 25-20.
Jackie Jordan led the way for the Tribe, with eight kills and ten digs, while teammate Tiff Thompson had ten aces and four kills, as well. Taylor Yurasits contributed 15 assists, three digs, two aces and two kills for the well-rounded all-around game.
Lehighton also won in the JV contest, 25-21, 24-26, 16-14, in a thriller.
Marian defeated Nativity in four games, 25-13, 20-25, 25-18, and 25-19, in its Schuylkill League opener.
Grace Boyle led the Fillies with nine kills, three aces, 13 digs and one block. Abigail Stankiwietz chipped in seven kills, two digs and three blocks while Abby O'Donnell added 24 assists, one ace and two blocks.
Marian won the JV contest, 2-0.
The Crimson Tide pulled out a straight-set win over the Lady Raiders in volleyball action, 25-11, 25-15, and 25-9.
Jaclin Valasek led with five kills and four digs, while Rebecca Minehan added five digs, as well.
Meanwhile, Pottsville prevailed in the preliminary contest, as well by a 2-1 score.
The Miners held off the Wreckers 23-25, 25-11, 25-22, 25-23 in a Division IV match.
Kirsten Ursta had three aces, four digs, four kills and two blocks for Weatherly (0-3). Shannon Sarosky added nine assists and Megan McClintock six digs for the Wreckers.
Panther Valley-Sch. Haven
Panther Valley swept Schuylkill Haven on the court, 3-0 as they defeated Schuylkill Haven, 25-10, 25-19, 25-9.
There were some great individual performances on the Panther Valley side of the net. Jamey Mikovich had five kills, four aces, and 6 digs, Richelle Van Horn had four kills, 12 assists, and six aces, and Jess Wiere had four kills, two assists, and four digs.
Panther Valley's JV team was also victorious sweeping Schuylkill Haven, 25-10, 25-15.
Blue Mountain-Jim Thorpe
The Blue Eagles pulled off a sweep over Jim Thorpe in volleyball action, 3-0, as they defeated the Lady Olympians, 25-16, 25-21, 25-16.
Despite the loss, Jim Thorpe had some pretty impressive individual performances, as Mackenzie Walck had eight kills and two blocks, Riley Carroll had 12 assists, six kills, and four digs, while Dara Conte had nine digs and three assists in the loss.
Blue Mountain's Lexi Hammer had 18 assists and eight aces, while Brittany Moyer had 15 digs and nine kills.
Jim Thorpe handed Pottsville a 4-1 loss to move its record to 3-3 on the season.
Gabby Binder, Bryanna Kehrli and Haley Cope swept the singles matches, while Maria Donati and Minke Pheiffer won doubles for Thorpe.
