Three injured in Schuylkill crash
Three persons were injured, none seriously, in a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 2:20 p.m., Monday, Oct. 28, along SR209 in East Norwegian Township.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said Alwyn N. Wassel, 72, of New Philadelphia, was driving a 2004 Ford Explorer southbound and entering a left curve. She was going too fast to negotiate the curve, troopers said, and went onto the west berm. The Explorer traveled along the berm for about 33 feet before entering some gravel. The vehicle continued south along the berm another 20 feet before impacting with an embankment.
The Explorer traveled along the embankment for 70 feet before overturning onto the driver's side and rolling onto its roof where it came to rest.
Wassell and passengers William J. Wassel, 39, and Daniel G. Wassel, 41, both of New Philadelphia, were all taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-E. Norwegian St., Pottsville, for treatment of minor injuries. The Explorer was towed from the scene.
Troopers cited Wassel for traveling at an (un) safe speed.
