Jim Thorpe man hit with gun, shot in shoulder

State police at Fern Ridge are investigating an assault incident in which a gun was used and discharged.

Troopers said about 10:45 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, they responded to a reported shooting at Valerio's Bar, located along SR534, in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County.

On scene officers learned that Cory Barnes, 27, of Jim Thorpe, and a black male, were involved in a verbal altercation in the bar. Both men left the bar. Outside the bar the black male struck Barnes on the side of the face with a handgun.

Barnes was then shot in the left shoulder area, suffering a grazing wound. The suspect then fled the scene.

The black male was described as being short and thin.
