Kidder fire co. hosts open house

Published October 18. 2013 05:01PM

Kidder Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 held its second annual open house last Saturday.

The event, organized by Lieutenant Jess Rickert, 21, of Kidder Township, was put together as part of the national Fire Prevention Week.

"We need to bring fire awareness to children and adults," said Rickert. "We teach fire safety. We had a kitchen fire demonstration, and we had hose and equipment demonstrations. The kids really enjoyed the visit from Smokey Bear. We also had the firefighters come through in turnout gear.

"It always gets the kids excited and it helps them not to be afraid."

EMT's from Lake Harmony Rescue Squad and Kidder Township Police Officers were also on hand to meet with the children.
