Lehighton parade will honor Carbon 4-H members

Carbon County 4-H clubs and members will be honored in this year's Lehighton Area Halloween Parade.

The 43rd annual parade will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19. The rain date is 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20.At the front of the procession will be Carbon County's longest-active 4-H volunteer Robert "Bob" Miller of Franklin Township. He will be riding with his wife, Ferne, who also is a long-time 4-H member and volunteer.Julie Harris, chairman of the Lehighton Area Halloween Parade Commitee, said last year marked the centennial celebration of 4-H.She said Carbon County has very active 4-H clubs, which prompted the parade committee to recognize them. The Millers have been involved in 4-H virtually all their lives. Their children and grandchildren also were active in 4-H, winning scores of ribbons in national, state, and local competitions. This year's parade will have five bands: the Lehighton Area High School Band, Perseverance Jazz Band, Allentown Hobo Band, City of Bethlehem Bagpipe Band and Nazareth Blue Eagles Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps.Friday is the deadline to register for the parade.Registration and division assignments will be held at 9th and Coal streets starting at 2 p.m. Harris said the registration forms had a mistake on the time the parade is forming.Paraders are reminded they are permitted to toss candy and gum to the viewers, but cannot stop and perform in front of the judges' stand. No ATVs are permitted."As in the past, we will continue to keep the parade a community affair, filled with fun," Harris said."The parade has been increasing in size throughout the years, and therefore, our expenses have grown."The parade is run totally on donations. To contribute, send donations to:Lehighton Area Halloween Parade Committee.
