Tamaqua Salvation Army Major Sharon Whispell places a metal placard on the side of their center's sound system in appreciation for a family's donation and long-time volunteerism. This piece of equipment, along with speakers and many other items, was donated via the Holmberg family over the past 10 years. The placard was placed in memory of longtime volunteer Betty Holmberg, who passed away in 2008. Another longtime volunteer remembered was Elmer Holmberg. Elmer was 78 when he suffered a fatal heart attack in December of 2011 while volunteering at a Salvation Army kettle inside the Redner's Market in Nesquehoning.
