When the pressure is on, that's when good athletes show their best.

On Monday, at the Mahoning Valley Country Club three TIMES NEWS area golfers showed that they indeed can perform well under the gun. Tamaqua's Mike Weinert (81), Pleasant Valley's Ryan Adamonis (85), and Marian's Mark Postupack (91) will all represent their schools at the AA and AAA District 11 Championships.Leading the trio from the TN area was the Raiders' Weinert, who finished tied for second in AA competition. Weinert made it known he wasn't happy with his performance at the Schuylkill League Championships last Monday. However, Weinert showed he had a short memory and came through with a solid performance to make it to Blue Ridge Country Club on October 7th."I performed a lot better this time around," said Weinert. "I putted very well today and my confidence was up pretty much throughout the day. The only thing that really hung me up on the day was at hole 11. I knocked my ball in the water and then I lost some confidence on the back nine. I was only one over after nine, so if I didn't hit the ball in the water there, who knows how well I could've shot."Pleasant Valley's Ryan Adamonis qualified for the District 11 AAA tournament for the second year in the row shooting an 85. Adamonis expressed his excitement to be playing at the District 11 Championships at his home course at the Blue Ridge Country Club."Today, I didn't start out great, but I rallied to do pretty well," said Adamonis. "The thing that I was really happy about was how I played out of the bunker. I made some nice shots out of the bunkers today to put me in position to make some pars. I'm also really excited that we're going to Blue Ridge next. That's our home course and I've shot well there my last few times out. So, it will be interesting to see how things unfold next week."The Colts Mark Postupack got into the District 11 field, shooting a 91 on the day. For Postupack, it's all about hitting the course with the approach to worry about just your game and only your game. He believes when you start to worry about the other golfer's scores that's when you can get into some trouble."It's all about going out there and trying to get pars," said Postupack. "You can't go out there trying to play anybody else. You worry about you and just hope that your focus and determination come through. Playing in a field with this many talented guys is always is an honor and I can't wait to tee off at Blue Ridge next week."There were several other TIMES NEWS area golfers that unfortunately weren't able to make the cut on the day.Marian's Austin Paisley (96) and Palmerton's Charles Debski (108) missed the cut line of 93 in AA, while Lehighton's Jordan Knappenberger (93) and Jim Thorpe's Brett Luciana (107) missed the cut of 85 in AAA.Northwestern's Cole Miller, who won the Colonial League Championship at the Bethlehem Golf Club got an automatic bid in AA along with his teammate Nick Vecellio (state qualifier 2012). Marian's Albert McFadden also captured an automatic entry, winning the Schuylkill League Championship at Mahoning Valley last Monday.As noted, the District 11 Championships will be held at Blue Ridge Country Club on Monday October 7th at 9 a.m.
