Storm causes power outage in Lehighton

Published November 18. 2013 07:25PM

A storm overnight was responsible for a power outage in Lehighton.

The outage occurred on the north side of town, from Mahoning Street.

Borough officials said a small tree branch fell on power lines at the intersection of Tenth Street and Coal Street, leaving several hundred customers temporarily without electricity.

Ss. Peter and Paul School in Lehighton canceled classes today because of the outage.

The storm occurred at about 2 a.m.

Power was reportedly restored by 5:45 a.m.

The wind that accompanied the storm also caused a tree to fall on wires on the Lentz Trail in Jim Thorpe this morning.

Gusts at Mount Pocono and in Reading were recorded in excess of 50 miles per hour.

No serious damage was reported locally.
