Coaldale driver facing DUI count

A Coaldale driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 9:40 a.m. Sunday, May 15. State police at Frackville said the crash occurred along Old Route 209 in Schuylkill Township, just west of Tamaqua.

Troopers said Joseph M. Machay, 26, was driving a 2002 Dodge westbound when the vehicle left the road and the front end impacted with a ditch.Troopers said Machay fled the scene but was later located. He showed signs of intoxication, troopers said, and was placed under arrest. He was transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson Street, Pottsville, for a blood test. He was also treated for minor injuries, troopers added.The DUI charge is pending the test results, troopers said. Machay will be charged with several motor vehicle code violations.
