Tax exemptions

The Schuylkill County and Tamaqua Borough Per Capita and Occupation Tax Exemption Forms for the year 2014 will become available on Monday for Borough of Tamaqua residents.

The exemption forms can be obtained at the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 E. Broad St., Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Forms will also be available at tax collector Alan Kerr's office, the Tamaqua Area School District Administration building, the Tamaqua ABC High Rise, Majestic House Apartment Complex, the Tamaqua Public Library and the Tamaqua Post Office.

Residents must complete the form each year to qualify for the tax exemption.

Exoneration forms must be submitted by Friday, Jan. 31, 2014.

MOPS program

The Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network is establishing a new program for Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS). An informational meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 14 at New Life Assembly of God Church, 407 Schuylkill Ave.

The program will not be limited to mothers with preschool age children as all young mothers in the community are welcome.

Mentor moms, child care helpers, craft helpers, discussion leaders and other volunteers are also needed and welcome.

St. Peter's Union

Sunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. This Sunday's service will include the observance of Veterans Day. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the church board will meet at 10:45 a.m., the Confirmation class will meet at 1 p.m., St. Luke's Service of Remembrance at 3 p.m., Cub Scouts at 5 p.m., Daisies and Brownies will meet at 6 p.m.

Activities for next week will include: Monday, play practice at 6:30 p.m.; Tuesday, junior choir practice at 7 p.m., senior choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.; Wednesday, retirees meet at 10 a.m.; Thursday, prayer group will meet at 4:45 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 6 p.m., dinner theater presentation.

Zion Lewistown

The Rev. Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m. Also on Sunday, a family game night will begin at 5:30 p.m., in the social hall.

The guild will meet at 7 p.m. Monday.

St. John U.C.C.

The Sunday Worship activities at St. John Church of Christ will be held at 9:30 a.m. A time of food and fellowship follows the service. Sunday school begins at 11 a.m. The weekly radio broadcast will air at 11:30 a.m. on WLSH radio station 1410 AM.

Church activities for next week include: Wednesday, choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.

Zion Lutheran

Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church is offering a Saturday worship service. The contemporary style service will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the church social hall. Featured guests this week will be Bethany's Praise Band. A time of coffee and fellowship will be held after the service.

Sunday worship services are held at 9:30 a.m.

First Methodist

The Rev. Susan Daniels will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church. The service will include an observation of Veterans Day. Adult Sunday school classes will meet at 9:30 a.m.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 10:30 a.m.

Next week's activities include: Monday, Messenger deadline; Thursday, property committee meets at 7 p.m., Angel Choir meets at 6 p.m., Shepherd Choir rehearses at 6:30 p.m. and Chancel Choir practice is at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Confirmation class meets at 10:30 a.m.
