One injured in Monroe crash

One person was injured and taken to a Lehigh County hospital following a crash that occurred about 1:08 p.m., Nov. 3, along Gilbert Road in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County. It was one of two crashes reported by state police at Fern Ridge.

Troopers said Thakorlal R. Patel, 64, of Effort, was southbound and stopped to make a left turn when James R. Benson, 26, of Collegeville, Montgomery County, came around a bend in the road while southbound and was unable to stop.

The front of Benson's Suzuki hit the rear of Patel's 2005 Toyota Highlander. Benson was injured and flown by medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, for treatment of moderate injuries, troopers said.

Patel and his passenger, Ramilaben Patel, 57, same address, were not injured.

A one-vehicle crash involving a deer was reported about 5:11 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Jane E. Brown, 76, of Mountain Top, Luzerne County, was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu westbound when a deer entered the road in front of her. She was unable to avoid the animal and struck it. Brown was not injured.
