Diocese churches to collect for Oklahoma storm victims

Published May 30. 2013 05:01PM

Churches in the Diocese of Allentown will be taking up a special collection on one of the weekends in June to benefit the victims of the devastating tornado that struck Moore, Okla., and its surrounding area last week.

In his communication to pastors directing that the collection be taken up, Diocese of Allentown Bishop John Barres said, "We cannot help but be moved to reach out in Christian charity to those affected."

Proceeds of the collection will be forwarded to Catholic Charities USA, a conduit for monetary donations in areas of devastation in the U.S.

Pastors are also being asked to include an intention for the tornado victims in the Prayer of the Faithful at Masses on the weekend of the special collection.
