Kunkletown man dies in one vehicle crash

A Kunkletown man was killed in a one vehicle crash on Friday, May 24.

State police at Lehighton identified the victim as John M. Dooley Jr., 49. The crash occurred about 8:53 p.m. along Lower Smith Gap Road, in Lower Towamensing Township, Carbon County.

Troopers said Dooley was operating a GMC vehicle eastbound, a mile east of Blue Mountain Road, when the vehicle left the road on the north side. The vehicle traveled un an embankment crashing into a tree before rolling down the embankment and coming to rest on its roof facing west on the road.

Dooley was pronounced dead at the scene by the county coroner, troopers said.

Trooper Shaun Flynn was assisted at the scene by Trooper Thomas Lyon and Cpl. Shawn Noonan, Aquashicola and Lower Towamensing fire companies and fire police, and Palmerton ambulance personnel.
