Firefighters respond to home in Tamaqua

Emergency personnel were called to 11 Cherry Street around 6:45 this morning for report of smoke in a structure. When they arrived, a mother said she was getting her children ready for school when the smoke detectors started going off and the top floor started to fill with smoke. Responding were all four Tamaqua fire companies, surrounding fire companies, Tamaqua Police, Tamaqua Ambulance and Tamaqua Fire Police. Tamaqua Rescue Squad's and Lansford's Rapid Intervention Teams also responded. As of press time, there was no word on what caused the incident. No injuries were reported.
