Bomb squad called to Summit Hill home

Published May 24. 2013 05:04PM

Carbon County Emergency Management Coordinator Mark Nalesnik called the Allentown Bomb Squad to a property on east Mountaintop Road in Summit Hill Tuesday afternoon after a resident discovered old blasting equipment.

There was no danger, Nalesnik said. The items were initiation devices, used to detonate blasting materials for mining, he said.

"But we didn't want to take a chance," and so called in the bomb squad, which takes the items and safely disposes of them.

Nalesnik said it's common for people in the coal region to discover old mining equipment. Residents who find blasting materials, however, should notify authorities.
