New Ringgold man cited after incident

Published May 22. 2013 05:03PM

A New Ringgold man will cited by Tamaqua police following an incident on May 19.

Patrolman Thomas Duarte was on patrol, traveling north on Berwick Street, when he observed a blue Nissan being operated in an erratic manner. At one point the officer had to back up his cruiser to avoid being struck by the Nissan.

Duarte conducted a traffic stop in the area behind the Wells Fargo Bank, Berwick and West Rowe sts.

The operator of the Nissan was identified as Jason Ryan Steinbrunn, 23, of 345 Mushdahl Rd. Steinbrunn had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and spoke with slurred speech. He admitted to drinking two beers and handed the officer a Pennsylvania identification card, not a driver's license.

Steinbrunn refused to submit to field sobriety or blood tests.

He faces charges of driving under the influence (DUI).
