PennDOT contractors are in full swing preparing for next week's closure of the Tamaqua East Broad Street bridge, US 209.

During construction, temporary parking and traffic restrictions will be placed on various streets.

Contractors are in the process of installing numerous signs on state and local roads advising drivers of these changes. Modifications are also being made to road markings and signals at the intersections of Broad and Greenwood streets and Center and Cedar streets to accommodate changes in traffic patterns.

According to PennDOT, the detour route will go into effect and the bridge construction will begin on Tuesday, May 28.

The bridge is expected to be closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic for up to 18 months. The anticipated completion date is Nov. 21, 2014.
