A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 12:27 a.m. along Schuylkill Mountain Road, in Wayne Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Joshua M. Fernandez, 20, of Schuylkill Haven, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Prizm westbound and failed to negotiate a left curve. The Prizm left the road on the north side and collided into a tree with the front end.

Fernandez and a passenger, Ray Hogan, 19, of Cressona, both sustained minor injuries. Hogan fled the scene on foot, troopers added, but was later located.

Fernandez showed signs of intoxication and was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI. He was transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results, troopers said. Damages were disabling to the vehicle.
