Palmerton boosters to host test drive, antique car show
It's fast, free, and generates proceeds to benefit the Palmerton high school basketball teams.
Back by popular demand, the Palmerton High School Basketball Parents' Club will host a Dodge Booster Club Fundraiser as part of the PHS Basketball Team (boys and girls) Free Test Drive and Antique Car Show.
Sponsored by Rentschler Chrysler Jeep Dodge, the event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Leon George Bus Company, 660 Delaware Avenue, Palmerton.
Rentschler Chrysler Jeep Dodge will bring new vehicles to test drive. Dodge will donate $20 to Palmerton basketball for every person who takes a brief free test drive and completes a short survey.
Dodge has a program that combines support for high school enrichment programs with exposure for the new Dodge Durango, Journey, and Grand Caravan. The local Dodge dealer recommended the school.
Along with the free test drive, there will be a classic car show, according to Jim Nemeth, president of the PHS Basketball Parents' Club.
As of now, Nemeth said there are between 10-12 antique cars, and added anyone who would like to show their antique car may bring it along for display.
Last year's event featured a car wash, along with the free test drive.
While the car wash "made a little bit of money," Nemeth said he's hopeful that the "car show might draw more people in."
Nemeth encouraged the community to come out and support their local teams. Anyone 18 years of age or older, with a valid driver's license, may participate.
He said the group would like to thank Kerry Paules from Palmerton Subway, who will donate hoagies for people after they take the test drive, and Leon George, for use of his facility.
