PV Elementary school principal resigns

A saddened Panther Valley school board on Thursday accepted the resignation of elementary school Principal William Lombardo, effective April 26.

Lombardo has been on medical leave since Aug. 20."It was wonderful to work with Bill. He added so much to our team. We wish him well, " said Superintendent Rosemary Porembo.Mary Dugan Figura is serving as elementary principal.In other matters, the school board voted Koreen Nalesnik as vice president, an office previously held by David Hiles, who resigned last month; and again voted Anthony DeMarco as board treasurer.Also on Thursday, the board:*Agreed to ask St. Lukes Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale, to resume donating payments in lieu of property taxes. On Aug. 31, 2001, the school district entered into a five-year agreement with the hospital, whereby St. Lukes agreed to pay 30 percent of the expected tax bill from 2001 to 2006. St. Lukes paid $155,873.65 from 2002-2007.*Approved a contract with Blackboard (Alert Now) for the 2013-2014 school year at a cost of $5,292;*Approved transcript fees. Current students will get the first three transcripts free of charge. After that, they will pay $3 per transcript. Alumni cost is $3 per transcript;*Denied a grievance with the Panther Valley Education Association concerning a one-hour reduction for educational aides;*Abolished the position of truant officer as of June 30. The position is in the confidential administrative staff contract. The job duties will be absorbed by another position as the district restructures its staff in the future.
