Life Line screening

Blood drive today

The Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville, is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive today from noon to 6 p.m. There will be another drive Wednesday, May 15, from noon to 6 p.m.

The drives are open to the public and walk-ins are welcome. Those with appointments will be taken first. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 1-800-223-6667.

Western Pocono library

Each Friday afternoon, the Western Pocono Community Library offers movie time at 1 p.m. for adult patrons. There will be a different movie every Friday in May starting at 1 p.m. in the Community Room. Popcorn and beverages will be available. Contact the library for a listing of the movies to be shown at (570) 992-7934.

The library has programs for grade and high school students. For the teens, there is the TAB (Teen Advisory Board) and NiteLite for students in grades 3-12. They will meet today at 6:30 p.m. to discuss upcoming events for the summer, like Zombie Week, a re-enactment of the Underground Railroad and possibly another Haunted Track. Those who wish to be part of Storybook Theater, grades 7-12, should also attend.

PVMS musical

The Little Mermaid Jr. will play at Pleasant Valley Middle School Friday, May 10, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, May 11, at 2 and 7 p.m. The 60-minute musical, designed for middle-school-aged performers, is based on the 2008 Broadway production and the 1989 animated feature film. The seventh- and eighth-grade cast contains approximately 25 students led by director Roxanne Scott.

Victorian Tea Party

There will be a free Victorian Tea Party on May 11 from 1-4 p.m. at the Chestnuthill Park building, Route 715, Brodheadsville.

Bring an old tea cup and saucer and your favorite covered dish. For seating purposes, RSVP by calling Joanna at (610) 844-3620.

Mother-daughter banquet

Effort UMC will host its annual mother-daughter banquet Monday, May 13.

All Sports Club

The Pleasant Valley All Sports Club will meet at 7:30 p.m., Monday, May 13, in the high school library.

Knit &Crochet

Members and friends of Zion's Knit &Crochet Group will meet from 1-3 p.m., Wednesday, May 14, at the church complex in Brodheadsville.

Pentecost Vigil

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will hold a Pentecost Vigil from 7 to 10 p.m., Saturday, May 18 with international preacher Neil Velez.

Recycling change

Local BCM missionary Jim Ecker says he can no longer accept outdated non-denominational materials such as Sunday School papers and curriculum, magazines, videos, used Bibles, etc. as his local contact who had been distributing them can no longer do so due to poor health.

Italian Heritage Club

The Italian-American Heritage Club of Monroe County is a social club that promotes Italian heritage in eastern Pennsylvania. It meets at 2 p.m., the third Sunday of the month at the Chestnuthill Township Park Building in Brodheadsville. The next meeting is May 16. It will be a regular meeting with bingo with prizes, cards, cake and coffee.
