Man who attempted to flee police caught

A Monroe County man who attempted to flee and elude police is in custody.

The Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department received a complaint at 8:30 p.m. May 1 about a green motorcycle being driven by a Hispanic male on Yellowstone Drive drag racing a black car.

Police checked the area and observed William Jesus Lopez-Cartagena, 22, of Blakeslee, on the motorcycle on Allegheny Drive.

Police attempted to stop Lopez-Cartagena, who failed to stop and fled on Allegheny Drive, then into the woods.

Police returned to Yellowstone Drive a few minutes later and found Cartagena hiding in a shed on a property at 2215 Yellowstone Drive.

Cartagena was arrested and taken to the Booking Center for processing.

The green motorcycle was recovered on the property and towed.

Cartagena will be charged with fleeing and attempting to elude police, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without insurance, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, and reckless driving.
