Alverda Mackes, a resident at Renee's Personal Care Home in Palmerton, is celebrating her 95th birthday today. She was born May 7, 1918 in Little Gap.

Alverda was married to Leon Mackes, who passed away in 1989. She is the companion of Samuel George for over 20 years.She has three children: Deran Smith of Allentown, Delbert Green of Bethlehem and Gloria Eckhart, wife of Leonard Eckhart of Lehighton.She has 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.She has been a lifetime member of the Jerusalem UCC Church in Trachsville.
