Members and volunteers with the Rabbit Run Fish and Game Association held their 46th annual 2-day free fishing derby recently at the Rabbit Run Reservoir Dam on Rabbit Run Road in Tamaqua. Both children and adults were encouraged to participate in the event.

In total, just over 2,500 fish were stock in preparation for the derby. Volunteers added that about three dozen of which were 20 inches or larger. 25 prizes were awarded for various categories, as well as 32 prizes given away for top winners.

In addition to a lake charter trip to Lake Ontario (won by Paul Myers of East Penn) and a Salmon River drift boat trip (won by Tabatha Ruth for having the heaviest string of trout).

Association President William Weaver pointed out, "Without all the generous sponsors, we couldn't hold this free event." A large sponsorship board displaying all the sponsors is near the entrance to the reservoir.

He added, "We have so many dedicated volunteers and sponsors. They all give so much time and effort. Thank you to all our derby association members, volunteer cooks and sponsors for making this a great event every year."
