Carbon driver facing DUI count

A Carbon County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following an incident that occurred on Friday, May 3.

Troopers said Matthew George Rish, 45, of Tresckow, was at the courthouse in Jim Thorpe about 9:30 a.m. for a protection from abuse (PFA) hearing. He displayed signs of intoxicaton at the courthouse. He fled the courthouse with county sheriff deputies observing him leaving the county parking lot driving a vehicle.

Troopers were alerted and stopped Rish at SR209 and Lehigh Avenue, in Jim Thorpe. He showed signs of intoxication and was placed under arrest for suspicion of drunk driving. Charges will be filed, troopers said.

Troopers were assisted by county sheriff deputies and Jim Thorpe police.
