Lehighton support staff donates to two area nursing homes
SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS Julie Willet, Kim Ahner and Ann Louise Hayes are shown with Doris Matsinko, who is enjoying some ice cream while visiting with members of the LASD support staff.
The Lehighton Area School District support staff, over the past two years, has collected and distributed various items for two nursing homes within the district.
They were given lists of items that residents of the homes would appreciate and use. The officers of the support staff group then asked members to donate items for this yearly venture.
The support staff includes paraprofessionals, cafeteria workers, custodians, maintenance, secretaries, nurses, attendance officers, network analysts and emotional support interventionists.
Lehighton Area Educational Support Personnel Association President Julie Willet was overwhelmed with the outpouring of items that were collected.
She, along with two other paraprofessionals, visited Mahoning Valley Nursing Home and distributed the items recently.
The women had the opportunity to visit with some former employees of the district, who are residents at the facility.
Willet said it was very rewarding being able to distribute items to the residents and what a satisfying feeling it was knowing that they put smiles on their faces.
The group will visit The Summit in Lehighton in early May. The support staff hopes to continue with its "Spring Fling," and make it an annual event.
