Bird announces re-election bid for Lehighton Borough Council
John Bird announced his re-election bid for Lehighton Council. Bird has filed for another four year term. Presently Bird serves on Lehighton Council's police, fire, safety and power-light committees.
The 55-year-old noted conservative, defends Constitutional rights and practices lower cost, limited government.
Bird's grandparents moved to Lehighton approximately in 1932.
Economic depression challenged people to be innovative and resourceful. Bird's family worked in local industries, home management and business. As a teen, John worked at Scotty's Fashions.
Bird, AKA, JB, is a Lehighton Area High School grad and an Army veteran.
He has a Bachelor's Degree from Kutztown State University. Bird remarked he applied for federal jobs in the Maryland-DC areas.
Although well qualified, he was denied jobs to accommodate Affirmative Action. Bird then worked at various Lehigh Valley jobs including 10 years at Muhlenberg College Police Department.
As a councilman, John said he has consistently strived to provide essential services for citizens at the lowest possible cost to taxpayers.
"I honored my pledge to vote against all wasteful spending," he said. "I believe smaller, more efficient government generates greater liberty and prosperity."
He continued, "Inflation, caused by disastrous federal policies, has made our jobs more difficult and complex. The rising cost of energy and health care are straining municipal budgets across the nation."
Bird urges Lehighton citizens to vote in the May 21 primary election. He indicated that primary and general elections are equally important.
