While this year's Carbon County St. Patrick's Day Parade and the associated Grand Marshal Dinner are now just fond memories, the work and efforts of those involved to aid and assist their fellow man continue unabated.
When the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Alec Campbell, Mauch Chunk Division I, Carbon County held it's Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade Grand Marshal Dinner at the Mahoning Valley Country Club, the evening's program was dedicated to the Down Syndrome Foundation and Special Olympics of Carbon County.
The St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee which sponsors the annual parade and the Carbon County A.O.H. combined to donate a check for $1,000 to aid the two organizations.
Accepting the check presentation for them was Maureen Foster with the A.O.H. also honoring Ryan Lee, Tony Taylor, Samantha Siemi, who were at the event, and the Memory of Bettianne O'Donnell.
These and other endeavors by the members of the A.O.H. are all in keeping with the Ancient Order of Hibernians' motto of "Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity".
So contrary to what some people may think, the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in Jim Thorpe, while it is indeed a major undertaking on their part, is not the only thing that the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee and the Ancient Order of Hibenians do locally for their communities.
