Tamaqua woman celebrates 90 years

Mildred "Millie" Harahus of Tamaqua celebrated her 90th birthday on March 10. The former Mildred Marcin, she is the widow of George Harahus of Lansford.

During World War II, she was a nurses' aide at the former Coaldale State General Hospital. Her work career also included a 10-year stint at the former Atlas Powder Company, Reynolds, and demonstrating Coca Cola Products at various grocery stores.She was last employed by Jamesway in Tamaqua.The mother of two, Gigi, wife of Paul Long of Whitehall, and Craig of Weatherly, is also the grandmother of five: Shelly Deifer and Leslie Tremlett, both of Raleigh, N.C.; Craig Harahus of Drums; Stephanie Phillips of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; and John Harahus of Shamokin. Mrs. Harahus also has eight great-grandsons: Zachary, Elijah and Wyatt Deifer; Lucas Griffin; Evan Tremlett; and Jesse and Joshua Phillips.Millie is in relatively good health, and continues to do her own cooking and housework.Family and friends helped celebrate the special occasion with a birthday party at La Dolce Casa in Tamaqua.
