Warrant issued for Lansford man
Lansford police have issued a warrant for Derek Hunsicker, 24, whose last known address was 232 E. Patterson St., Lansford. Hunsicker faces charges from an incident which took place at 8:50 p.m. Jan. 6 on the 300 block of E. Bertsch St.
Charges were filed by Officer Jason Helmer.
Hunsicker is charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, Helmer was on duty when he conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle in which Hunsicker, whom he knew from prior contacts, was a passenger. Hunsicker was wanted for failure-to-appear on an assault charge.
The affidavit adds that Hunsicker tried to run, but was arrested by Helmer with Det./Sgt. Jack Soberick. A search revealed Hunsicker had a small plastic tube commonly used to snort illegal substances. The tube held a white, powdery residue.
Police gave Hunsicker his Miranda warnings, verbally and in writing. Hunsicker agreed to talk to police, but refused any written statement.
He said he used the tube to snort "Perc 30s," which are 30 mg. Percocet tablets. He had not been prescribed the drug, a narcotic painkiller.
