Charges are pending against a Lehigh County man who allegedly was intoxicated when he crashed into a Washington Township eatery over the weekend.

Ned Walsh, 53, of Schnecksville, was speeding south on Route 873 at 1:09 a.m. Sunday when he reached a sharp turn and lost control, sending his car through the parking lot before it crashed into the front entrance of the Country View Diner and Family Restaurant, according to state police at Fogelsville.

Walsh then fled the scene, heading southwest on Oakwood Lane for about two miles and parked, police say.

He exhibited signs of intoxication when police later found him at his residence, police say.

Walsh was placed in custody and transported to Lehigh County Central Booking Center, where a blood test was obtained.

The Country View Diner remained open for business.
