Several cited for Tamaqua incident
Tamaqua police have cited numerous individuals in connection with a May 9 incident that started out as a picnic and ended with a mob of people causing a disturbance in the area of the former Rite Aid on North Railroad Street.
Several people including Alicia Serina and Tabitha Masterson were attending a picnic at 31 N. Railroad St. Around 10:10 p.m. a large group of people approached the area yelling and shouting at the picnic attendees. As the two groups met, punches were thrown and one girl's shirt was ripped off.
During the melee, Ashley Weirich, 19, of 104 Schuylkill Ave., Tamaqua, used a mini stun gun on Masterson and Serina, causing wounds to their arm and face respectively. Weirich was charged with use of a prohibited weapon, use of an electronic incapacitation device, simple assault, harassment, and disorderly conduct.
Other participants, who were each charged with disorderly conduct, are: Melissa Baer, 19, of 104 Schuylkill Ave., Tamaqua; Tyrone Guzman, 23, of 346 Yeakle St., Weatherly; and Michael Vereen, 32, of 34 Nescopec St., Tamaqua.
