Thorpe powerlifters achieve statewide success

The Jim Thorpe Area High School Powerlifting team recently wrapped up another successful season, capturing two first-place trophies and two third-place finishes in competition throughout the state.

The season started in November at the 2012 USA Powerlifting Stars and Stripes BP/DL Championships held in Clarks Summit, which saw 13 team members participate in the open competition.All 13 lifters placed in their respective weight classes with seven placing first, and four setting state records in their weight classes.In February, the Olympians traveled to Emmaus for the 2013 PA Teenage Powerlifting Championships, with 22 team members competing and 10 placing in their weight classes.Tegan Kane and Bobby McHale were state champions, while the team also took home third place in the Big School Division.Jim Thorpe moved on to Clarks Summit in March, where the Olympians competed in the 26th Annual Abington Heights Weightlifting Meet.Eleven of the 23 team members that participated earned individual awards, with four taking championships in their respective weight classes. Tee Jay Lefew won the Best Lifter award.The Olympians hosted their 10th annual BP/DL Lift-a-Thon in April, with 18 earning trophies in their weight classes.Seven were champions in their respective weight classes and Bobby McHale won the Best Heavy Weight Bench award.Jim Thorpe's last competition of the year was at Glen Mills in the

P.S.C.P.A. Pennsylvania State High School Championships, where the Olympians placed third in the Small School Division.Twenty-two team members competed, with 12 earning trophies. Tegan Kane was the state champion in his weight class.
