Scholarships given by Masons to two Palmerton students

Lehighton Lodge 621 Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania, Lehighton, have announced the recipients of the 2013 scholarships for higher education.
Courtney Getz and Lauryn Solt, both of Palmerton, each received a $500 scholarship to pursue their educational goals.
Getz, a 2012 graduate of Palmerton High School, is the daughter of Ricky and Yvette Getz. She will be attending West Chester University, pursuing a degree in medical technology.
Solt is the daughter of Kelly and Kerry Solt and a 2012 graduate of Palmerton High School. She will be attending Shippensburg University, majoring in biology pre-med.
"We hope these funds will help you and your family in your endeavors in education," said presenter Patrick Totaro, senior warden. "These funds will help you as you pursue your dreams."
Masons throughout history have been lovers of the arts and sciences and endeavor to promote learning and advancement of knowledge.
The funds for the scholarship are raised at fish fries and other dinners.
"The scholarship program was started by a member, Harry Long, who left funds to us to start the program," said Richard Getz, member of the Lodge. "We are working hard to continue the program.
