A car and a large black bear collided on a Carbon County road. State police at Lehighton said the incident occurred about 10:05 p.m. on Friday, June 14, along SR248, near Bowmanstown, in Palmerton.

Troopers said Jason T. Flowers, 24, of Northampton, was driving a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta eastbound when he struck the bear. The Jetta pushed the bear about 200 feet before coming to rest along the center barrier.

Flowers sustained a minor injury but did not require immediate medical attention. The car sustained severe and disabling damage.

Bowmanstown Fire Company volunteers assisted at the scene.
