CCD news

Jane Habel, director of Religious Education at St. Jerome's, will be accepting registrations for 2013-2014 CCD classes starting this weekend at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church following the 10:30 a.m. Mass.

Registrations will also be accepted next week at 250 W. Broad St. and after the 11 a.m. Mass in St. Jerome's Catholic Church on June 23.

Cressona band

The Cressona Band will appear locally two more times in June. The band will perform at the Tamaqua ABC Hi Rise, 222 E. Broad St., Tamaqua at 7 p.m. on June 19 and is sponsored by Dr. Richard Chwastiak and Shafer's Pharmacy.

Another appearance will be from 4-6 p.m. on June 30 at Heisler's Dairy Bar in the Lewistown Valley. This event is being sponsored by the dairy, the Companion Animal Hospital of Tamaqua and Ron and Connie Glovich.


The Tamaqua Historical Society will hold its 23rd Annual Summerfest celebration on June 16. For more information, call (570) 668-1880.

Summer reading

The Tamaqua Public Library's 2013 Summer Reading Program kicks off Monday, June 17 and will continue through July 29. No sessions will be held the week of July 4.

Children ages 2-5 years old will meet from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The same program will be offered both days.

Children ages 6-12 years will meet at 3-4:30 p.m. and 6-7:30 p.m. on Mondays.

Zion Lewistown

The Rev. James Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday. Sunday school will be held at 9:15 a.m.

New members will be received into the congregation on June 23.

First Methodist

Due to this Sunday's Summerfest celebration, a worship service led by Marge Kropp will be held at 6:30 p.m. this Saturday in First United Methodist Church. Sen. Dave Argall will provide the message.

The quilters meet at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesdays.

Older and Bolder

The Salvation Army's Older and Bolder group meets every Wednesday at the Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St. Meetings include a light lunch.

Next week's schedule will include a trip to Knoebel's Grove on Tuesday. Also on Tuesday, farm market vouchers will be available from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Salvation Army gym.

A free exerette exercise program is held from 9:30-11 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday in the gym.

Patriotic Bell performances will be presented on June 25 and June 26.

St. John UCC

Sunday worship services are held at 9:30 a.m. in St. John United Church of Christ.

Also this Sunday, the choir will be performing at Eckley Miner's Village at 1:30 p.m.

The spiritual council will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.

The United Citchen Crew will need volunteers to help with a hoagie sale on June 15. To volunteer or for more information, call (570) 668-2573.

St. Peter's Union

Sunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. This Sunday's service will include a Joyous Noise Offering.

Also on Sunday, Summer Sunday School will meet at 10:15 a.m.

Activities for next week include: Tuesday, Women of St. Peter's Association meets at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, prayer group meets at 4:45 p.m.
