A state police cruiser was involved in a crash about 9:50 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11, along SR209 at Raymond St., in Towamensing Township, Carbon County.

State police at Lehighton said Shayne R. Geist, 25, of Lehighton, was driving a 2004 Ford F350 truck and attempting to proceed from a stop sign on Raymond St. and onto northbound 209. Cp. William Waltman, the Lehighton barracks' patrol unit supervisor, was operating a 2013 Ford unmarked cruiser southbound on 209 and approaching the intersection.

Geist pulled directly into the path of Waltman with the right front end of the truck striking the passenger side of the police unit. After impact the crusier traveled from the southbound lane across the northbound lane and into a grass area. The truck came to rest at the point of impact.

Geist was not injured but a passenger, Jami Lassell, 18, of Lehighton, sustained a minor injury and was not wearing a seat belt. Waltman sustained minor injuries.

Troopers said charges will be filed against Geist.
