Bears spotted at Palmerton Pool

Published June 10. 2013 05:06PM

Visitors who plan to attend Palmerton Memorial Pool should be on the lookout for bear along their travels.

A mother bear, along with three of her cubs, have recently been spotted in trees at Palmerton Memorial Park, according to Larry Arner, general manager of Palmerton Memorial Pool.

Arner said that the [Pennsylvania] "Game Commission has been notified, and they're doing all they can for us."

"We don't want anybody walking into them," Arner said. "It's the woods, and what can you do; part of the area belongs to the bears as much as us."

Arner said bears have been observed three times since Memorial Day, and added that "if you see them, back away from them."

"If you see them, report them to somebody," he said. "And stay away from them, because a mother will protect her own."

Arner said it isn't uncommon for bear to be around the area from time to time.
