Hazleton man cited

McAdoo Police have cited a Hazleton man following a traffic stop on May 17.

Patrolman Steven Homanko was monitoring traffic at 8:13 p.m. that day when he observed a silver Dodge Durango traveling north on Kennedy Drive. The passenger side brake light was not working, so Homanko initiated a traffic stop.The driver was identified as Jose Contes, 24, of Hazleton. Contes agreed to a vehicle search and freely admitted he was carrying a gun, for which he did not have a carry conceal permit. After removing the firearm, the officer searched the vehicle and found a clear plastic baggie with green vegetable matter. Contes said it was his and admitted to smoking marijuana about an hour earlier.He was given, and failed, three field sobriety tests, then transported to Schuylkill Medical Center South in Pottsville to have blood drawn.The test results were positive.Contes was charged with illegal possession of a firearm, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and failure to have the required lighting on his vehicle.
