Local dancers earn scholarships at Dance with Kim, Lehighton

Dance with Kim School of Performing Arts LLC, Lehighton, recently held an awards banquet at Mahoning Valley Country Club, where over $2,000 in performing arts scholarships were awarded.

Riley Zimmerman, 15-year-old daughter of Penny and Trevor Zimmerman of Lehighton, was named Senior Dancer of the Year for 2013. Riley was awarded a $300 performing arts scholarship.

Angeline Castagna, 12-year-old daughter of Carmel and the late Carmen Castagna of Tamaqua, was named Dance with Kim's Junior Dancer of the Year 2013. Angeline received a $200 scholarship.

Named Most Improved Dancer 2013 was Abigail Reis, who is the 10-year-old daughter of Sheila and Matthew Reis of Palmerton. She was awarded a $150 scholarship.

The Broadway Dance Center Scholarships were awarded to Tia Brownmiller from Lehighton, Brianna Holtzer from Whitehall and Jordyn Zwetolitz from Lehighton. The scholarship was $225.

The Amanda Thierer Memorial Scholarship was presented to 11-year-old Lillian Brown of Lehighton. Lillian is the daughter of Amy and Bobby Brown. She received a $300 scholarship.

The winner of the Studio Spirit scholarship for $150 was Erin McGinley. Erin is the daughter of Julie Harris and William McGinley of Lehighton.

Recipients of the Mark McCool Memorial Scholarships, each worth $250, were Aariana Huttie, 11-year-old daughter of Branddi and William Muth of Nesquehoning, and Madison Brown, 9-year-old daughter of Kerry and Floyd Brown of Lehighton.

Awards were also presented for perfect attendance, 5, 10 and 15 year anniversary, split club, studio spirit and most helpful parents.

"We pride ourselves in making sure that a child in need still has the opportunity to enjoy dance," says owner Kim Semmel.

"Families facing temporary financial challenges are able to apply with me privately."

Dance with Kim will host its 26th annual production June 15 at Lehighton Area High School.
