Meckes, Denaro have solid seasons for ESU

Pleasant Valley graduate Kasey Meckes turned in a solid season for the East Stroudsburg University softball team this past spring.

Meckes, a sophomore outfielder, started 34 games for the Warriors. The Kunkletown native collected 30 hits in 98 at-bats for a .306 average, which was third best on the team.

She also finished with 15 runs scored, seven doubles, one homer, 13 RBIs and 12 walks.

Another former Bears player, Jennifer Denaro, also saw playing time for ESU this season. The senior designated player, from Saylorsburg, started 29 games and hit .176 (12-for-68) with 14 runs scored, one double, 13 walks and six RBIs.

Denaro, who was named to the Capital One Academic All-District team, also was hit by a pitch 15 times and her .417 on-base percentage led the team. She is a Special Education and Early Childhood Education major with a 3.95 GPA.

The Warriors ended the 2013 season with an 18-20 record.
