Kinsley's ShopRite hosts Organ Donor Awareness Day on Saturday

Published June 05. 2013 05:03PM

Kinsley's ShopRite will host its annual Organ Donor Awareness Day to benefit Gift of Life Family House on Saturday, June 8 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The store is located at 107 Kinsley Lane, off Weir Mt. Rd., Brodheadsville

The Family House serves as a "home away from home" for transplant patients and their families by providing temporary, affordable lodging, meals and supportive services to those who travel to Philadelphia for transplant care.

There will be fun for the whole family with games, food, music and lots more. The popular local band Thunder Mountain will perform from 12-2 p.m. Dietz & Watson will provide hot dogs and Pepsi and Herrs will provide drinks and chips for a small donation.

A Gift of Life representative will be available to answer all your questions about organ and tissue donation and Living Donation.

Free for the kids will be a Moon Bounce, face painting, and Disney characters Dora the Explorer, Minnie Mouse and Optimus Prime.

You can show off your arm by dunking one of the surprise guests in the dunk tank.

Miss Pocono Mountain Harley Davidson will be available for pictures.

Inside the store, local celebrity baggers like Colleen Mancuso, Mario Scavello, Rosemary Brown and more, will be on hand to bag your groceries.

Kinsley's hosted its first Organ Donor Awareness Day in 2011. Kinsely's produce manager, Jim Kintz of Marshalls Creek, donated a kidney to Lauren Davis in 2010.

Because he became aware of how important this gift of life can be, he approached his employer, Chris Kinsely, about wanting to do an Organ Awareness Day. The Kinsley family supported the idea 100 percent and they worked closely with Kintz to make it become a reality.

This year, in addition to Kinsely's, Pocono Mountain Harley Davidson will be holding a Family House Ride for Awareness. If you would like to participate call (570) 992-7500.

Kintz and Kinsely's are asking the community for its support for this year's event. If anyone would like to donate to the event or want to help in anyway with bagging and the raffle, please contact Jim Kintz at or call (570) 856-9442.
