Tamaqua man cited for theft

A Tamaqua man has been cited following an incident at Boyer's Food Market, 210 Cedar St., Tamaqua, on May 24.

Police were dispatched to the store at 4:10 p.m., where John Smith II, 23, of 210 Market St., had been detained by store personnel. Smith had allegedly stuffed five packs of hot dogs in his pants. When confronted by employees he ran to the back of the store and tossed the items in a trash can.

Smith exhibited several signs of possible intoxication. He was taken to the police station and given a portable breath test, which was positive for alcohol.

He was cited for retail theft and public drunkenness.
