The Ladies Auxiliary to R.W. Fritzinger VFW Post 7215, Walnutport, decorates the park around Walnutport's Veterans Memorial each year. This year it was done on May 25.

"Decoration Day" is the original name for Memorial Day when the Confederate graves were decorated. President Lyndon Johnson officially changed its name in May 1966 and it came to mean all veterans of all wars.

Trees are dressed in ribbons and bows of yellow and red, white and blue. A new small tree has a multitude of smaller bows.

The United States flag and POW/MIA flag are replaced with new ones.

Faith Ohl, the Poppy Queen, was present and helped with the program. The poppies are made by disabled veterans with profits going for their benefit. The profit from those sold by Post 7215 benefits the VA Hospital in Wilkes-Barre.

VFW members joined the Auxiliary for the ceremony.

Pat Ohl gave a prayer including the words "In your hands are the living and the dead. We give you thanks for those, our comrades and sisters, who have laid down their lives in service to our country. … May they rest in peace."
