Newspaper drive

The men and boys of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive on Saturday, Aug. 3. There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola, and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.

Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors. They are collecting papers only, no magazines. The shiny inserts are acceptable. They also need grocery size brown paper bags.

Persons missed, or those wishing to dispose of papers throughout the month, may take them to the garage across from the church on Fireline Road, which is always open. In case of bad weather, the drive will be held the following Saturday.

Park concerts

On Sunday, Aug. 4, at 7 p.m., the group Remember When will be performing in the Palmerton Borough Park Bandstand. On Aug. 11, the Hazleton Band will present a concert. In case of rain, the concerts will be held in the Borough Hall, 443 Delaware Ave. Bring your own lawn chair and enjoy the music.

Volunteers needed

There are vacancies on the Board of Health, Shade Tree Commission, Planning Commission, Hospital Authority, and BOCA Board of Appeals. Anyone interested in serving on any of these boards, should contact the borough office at (610) 826-2505.

Knitting Club

From 6-8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 5, the Knitting Club will meet at the Palmerton Area Library. The club is free and open to anyone interested in knitting and crocheting at all skill levels. New members are welcome. The group meets the first and third Monday of every month.
