Playoffs open on Thursday

The Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission (ESRC) summer volleyball league concluded its regular season last week with eight teams advancing to next week's playoffs.

Defending league champion Sandstorm capped off an outstanding season with a 23-1 overall record, which earned them the top overall seed for the playoffs.

Valley Athletic Supply (21-3) and VBC Tomahawks-Seniors (18-6) finished as the second and third seeds respectively.

Postseason action gets underway this Thursday at Black Diamond Park in Coaldale with two best-of-five quarterfinal matches.

Anything But Net-Intensity

In a huge match that determined playoff seeding, Intensity salvaged its season with a 25-15, 25-17, 25-17 sweep of Anything But Net. The wins moved Intensity from ninth place (and out of the playoff picture) to seventh place and a guaranteed playoff berth.

Chris Hartung accounted for 16 service points and seven aces for Intensity.

For Anything But Net, Laura Cinicola scored nine service points.

Valley Athletic Supply-

Hope Wreckers

Valley Athletic Supply posted a three-game sweep of Hope Wreckers. No other information on this match was available.

Victorious Secret-

Can U Dig It

Can U Dig It won two out of three games from Victorious Secret, 25-16, 15-25, 25-21.

Geoff Sincavage led Can U Dig It with five service points.

Devin Parambo's six-point effort led the way for Victorious Secret.

Tomahawks Seniors-Hope Wreckers

VBC Tomahawks-Seniors won all three games against Hope Wreckers via forfeit.

Can U Dig It won all three games against Intensity via forfeit.


Tomahawks Seniors

In a make-up match from earlier this season, Sandstorm swept VBC Tomahawks Seniors, 25-21, 25-16, 25-0 (forfeit).

Christa Mantz led Sandstorm by serving off eight points.

For VBC Tomahawks Seniors, Jess McCarroll tallied five service points.


Tomahawks H.S.

Sandstorm concluded the regular season schedule with a three game sweep of VBC Tomahawks High School, 25-12, 25-13, 25-11.

Kyle Nevenglosky had nine service points to pace Sandstorm.

Taylor Yurasits recorded an ace for VBC Tomahawks High School.
