Weissport youngsters enjoy playing games, music in park
Gia LoPiccolo, 2, daughter of Tiffany (formerly of Weissport) and Francesco LoPiccolo of Macungie, toss a frisbee at the Weissport Park on Saturday.
Kids from Weissport were given a free day of fun on Saturday during an event that was sponsored by the Weissport Recreation Committee and Weissport School Reunion committee who combined resources to bring Music in the Park event to the borough.
During the afternoon hours, there were games to play and then in the evening there was music performed by the Lehighton Band, under the direction of Paul Smith.
Daytime activities include music by Uncle Milty (Monroe Berger), karaoke, finger painting, frisbee toss, pingpong toss and hula hoop toss hosted by Jacob's United Church of Christ, children's bike give-away, and refreshments.
All school age children living in Weissport also received a free t-shirt.
Weissport residents brought their lawn chairs to listen to the music and enjoy refreshment in the park.
Sandra Kokinda helped organize the day.
She reminisced about her days growing up in Weissport.
"We would have loved having something to do," she said. "We didn't have swimming pools and vacations. Today was for the children of Weissport."
In addition to the free shirts, each child was treated to a free hot dog and drink, courtesy of the Weissport School Reunion committee.
